Resumo: Facing the challenges brought by the study of climate change, every day new mitigation activities are proposed in an attempt to resolve the issue. Among these initiatives, worth special attention the development of REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and the increase of carbon stocks of forests in developing countries). This paper introduces the theme of climate change, listing the institutions and regulations which govern it, going specifically for the study of emission reductions resulting from the conversion and degradation of forest areas, culminating in the emergence of the concept of REDD + and the main aspects related. After this introduction, the paper discusses items related to the feasibility and funding of forest emission reduction projects, and the formation of the market for trading these verified reductions. The paper also addresses the most relevant methodological issues related to the theme; lists all stages of project implementation, and presents the current certification standards, which, with the other activities in development, pave the establishment of a global mechanism for REDD+

Dentre estas iniciativas, merece especial atenção o desenvolvimento do REDD+ (redução de emissões provenientes do desflorestamento e da degradação florestal nos países em desenvolvimento; e o papel da conservação, do manejo sustentável das florestas e do aumento dos estoques de carbono das florestas nos países em desenvolvimento). O presente trabalho introduz o tema da mudança do clima, relacionando as instituições e regulamentações que o disciplinam, partindo especificamente para o estudo das reduções de emissões advindas da conversão e degradação de áreas florestais, culminando no surgimento do conceito de atividades de REDD+ e os principais aspectos relacionados. Após esta introdução, são abordados itens referentes à viabilidade e ao financiamento de projetos de redução de emissão florestal, e a formação do mercado para a negociação destas reduções verificadas.
