Adolescência, parentalidade e autoestima: uma análise a partir da percepção de adolescentes

Resumo: | It's possible understand ''adolescence'' as a transition phase between childhood and adulthood; ''parenting'' as the educational, affective and socio-formative relationship between an individual and their caregivers; and "self-esteem" as the relationship that a person has with themselves, their perception of themselves, their confidence and value. The objective of this research was to investigate adolescents' perception of the parenting exercised by their parents/primary caregivers, as well as the relationship between this parenting and their self-esteem. The study had an exploratory, descriptive and qualitative methodological character. It was proposed the use of focus groups with adolescents aged 13 to 15 years old, of both sexes, students from a municipal school in the North Zone of São Paulo. Bardin's content analysis was used to analyze the data, and form categories based on the proposed objectives. Five categories related to self-esteem and its construction were identified; four categories related to the relationship between caregivers and the individual in childhood; four categories related to the caregivers' relationship with the individual currently (in adolescence); and, finally, three categories related to the influence of parenting on adolescents' self-esteem. The reports and categories discovered were extremely important to understand the view that adolescents have on self-esteem and how it is constructed; what the relationship with their caregivers was like and how it is now, during adolescence; and, especially, how this relationship affects your self-esteem. It was possible to understand that adolescents who have a good relationship with their families tend to have a more secure base on which to build their self-esteem, while those who have a more turbulent relationship tend to report more difficulties. The importance of listening to the adolescents themselves through qualitative methodologies is highlighted, for a better understanding of adolescence issues, and the need for more research to be carried out to expand the sample |

O objetivo desta pesquisa foi investigar a percepção de adolescentes sobre a parentalidade exercida por seus pais/cuidadores primários, assim como a relação entre esta parentalidade e sua autoestima.O estudo teve caráter metodológico exploratório, descritivo e qualitativo. Foi proposto o uso de grupos focais com adolescentes de 13 a 15 anos de idade, de ambos os sexos, alunos de uma escola municipal na Zona Norte de São Paulo. Para análise dos dados foi utilizada a análise de conteúdo de Bardin, buscando-se categorias a posteriori a partir dos objetivos propostos. Foram identificadas cinco categorias relacionadas à autoestima e sua construção; quatro categorias relacionadas ao relacionamento dos cuidadores com o indivíduo na infância; quatro categorias relacionadas ao relacionamento dos cuidadores com o indivíduo atualmente (na adolescência); e, por fim, três categorias relacionadas à influência da parentalidade na autoestima dos adolescentes. Os relatos e as categorias encontradas foram de suma importância para compreender a visão que os adolescentes têm sobre a autoestima e como ela se constrói; como era a relação com seus cuidadores e como se dá agora, na fase da adolescência; e, especialmente, de que forma esta relação afeta sua autoestima. Foi possível entender que os adolescentes que possuem uma boa relação com seus familiares tendem a ter uma base mais segura para construir sua autoestima, enquanto que aqueles que possuem uma relação mais turbulenta tendem a relatar mais dificuldades.
