This monograph aims to analyze the effectiveness of Law 11.340/2006, also known as the Maria da Penha Law, and its effectiveness in terms of the comprehensive protection of women. It first looks at the historical factors of the 20th century in Brazil, from legal issues to the feminist movement and related laws. This is followed by an analysis of domestic violence, including the types of violence, victims, causes and consequences. The next step includes the origin of the Maria da Penha Law, the history that influenced the creation of the law and its changes over the years. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of the law is presented, from the opening of the police investigation to the passing of judgments in cases dealing with crimes of domestic violence based on the Law 11.340/2006. Finally, practical cases, case law and an explanation of the effectiveness of the law will be presented, dealing with the comprehensive protection of women in cases of domestic and family violence, with a view to a better resolution of these cases before the victim becomes dead
