The present paper addresses the growing wave of movements and political parties of the far right worldwide, with a focus on Latin America and Brazil. Existing studies on the far right reveal a significant gap in understanding the Latin American particularities. In addition to analyzing the issues that distinguish the Global North from the Global South, this paper aims to compare the Latin American region as identified by different authors when examining far-right movements and parties. The objective of the work is to map these characteristics and use the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil and the government's treatment under Jair Bolsonaro to question the consequences and applicability of the identified characteristics. The quantity of detailed analyses on Latin American far-right still relies on the same perspective and outlook as cases from the Global North, limiting the true understanding of the dimensions of the region. Considering the rapid rise of these movements and their current transnational nature, it becomes essential to incorporate new concepts to genuinely analyze the Global South. Authors argue that the increasing cases in Brazil do not necessarily indicate a shift in values or simply unsatisfaction with previous governments, but rather an intrinsic connection to historical, political, and economic factors of the region, like in the case of Jair Bolsonaro during 2020
