A interação social do idoso de 80 ou mais anos: uma revisão integrativa

This dissertation aimed to investigate the social interaction of the elderly people in old age after 80 years, who may also be called “old-old”, “long-lived elderly”. The rise in the number of elderly people is a visible factor in Brazilian society, being the 80-year-old or older, the fastest growing. This justifies the need to study the living conditions of these elderly people and to develop appropriate social programs and health policies. The methodology used was a bibliographical review of the publications on the subject of the last 10 years in theses, dissertations, scientific articles and books. Many publications involving elderly people and social interaction were found, however, most of them did not include old age elderly or did not specifically address social interaction, despite it being among the key words. Nineteen scientific articles and one doctoral thesis on the subject were found. From the reading of these publications, together with the authors mentioned in the theoretical framework, it was possible to dissert about the subject in three categories: social interaction of the elderly in the family, social interaction between generations and social interaction of the elderly in institutions. It was concluded that more research with elderly people in old age should be carried out, mainly addressing the perceptions of the elderly themselves about their conditions. It is understood that this portion of the population is the one presenting more limitations, therefore, the difficulty of inserting them in research can be justifiable. However, these elderly people need to be better acquainted with daily best practices. In addition, family and health professionals must realize the need to print specific care when dealing with this elderly person, since effective interaction with them is essential to ensure better health, well-being, and quality of life in general
