This work explores the importance of friendships in childhood and its implications for children's social and emotional development. In the Introduction, the theme is contextualized through the author's personal experience in elementary school, highlighting how friendships influence children's learning and well-being. The method adopted is theoretical, based on the analysis of psychoanalytic texts and other approaches to understanding the dynamics of children's friendships. The chapter Friendship discusses the historical and philosophical evolution of friendship and its representation in the arts and psychology. Friendship from the Perspective of Psychoanalysis integrates views from psychoanalysts such as Winnicott, Freud, and Brazilian contemporaries, examining emotional and social development through friendships. In Friendship in Childhood, it details how children form and maintain friendships, emphasizing the role of playing and the importance of the school environment. The chapter The Occurrence of Triangulation in Friendships addresses the challenges of triadic relationships between children and their emotional consequences. In Difficulty Making Friends and Melanie Klein's Theory, we explore how Klein's theories about defense mechanisms and ego development help us understand why some children have difficulty forming friendships. Friendship and the Construction of Identity examines how interactions with friends shape children's identity and social behavior. Finally, The Journey of Friendship in 'Stand By Me' uses the film as a case study to illustrate theoretical concepts discussed previously. The Final Considerations summarize the main findings and reflections of the work, emphasizing the importance of childhood friendships for the integral development of children
