The present research addresses different views regarding the concept of preferences, such as the neoclassical, in which preferences are seen as exogenously given, and, therefore, unrelated to the context within acts of choice occur; the heterodox, according to which economic agents are endowed with limited rationality, which means their preferences are influenced by external elements, such as the context around them; as well as the one adopted by the behavioral economics, which argues that psychological factors may influence individual preferences, corroborating the heterodox view of endogenous preferences and limited rationality of the economic agents. This dissertation has a theoretical nature, which objective is to perform a critical analysis of the exogenous preferences theory, in order to demonstrate that individual preferences are more than just a relationship between consumers and consumer goods, insofar as they are influenced by factors such as moral values, rules, social conventions, among others
