The purpose of this work is to investigate the process of international drug trafficking, focusingon the role of "mules." The aim is to understand the profile of individuals who transport illicitsubstances in their bodies to other countries and analyze how they are framed in the legalcontext. The focus includes understanding the reasons for undertaking this work, identifyingthe socio-economic profile, and exploring why women predominate in this group. Furthermore, the study questions the legal understanding that equates them to traffickers, highlighting themanipulation and false promises involved in this role. The work also addresses the internationaldiscussion on the treatment of "mules" and the gaps in international conventions. It analyzeshow different countries deal with these individuals and highlights the limitations of the mainUN drug conventions, which do not provide specific guidance to address the nuances of the"mules" role. The research emphasizes the need for more comprehensive and fair actions, recognizing the specific circumstances faced by these individuals, and underscores theimportance of local organizations in promoting fair and inclusive approaches
