Resumo: This study aims to analyze the Environmental Reserve Quota, or Cotas de Reserva Ambiental (CRAs), recently established by the new Forest Code, Federal Law n. 12,651 of 2012, as a tradable environmental asset . For this study, it was necessary to use a deductive method of analysis, highlighting the changes undergone by the Forest Code in 2012, including the new concept of Legal Reserve, for example, to finally stick to a specific question, which is the CRAs and its place in the market. This topic has great relevance in the current global context, due to the needs of the adoption of environmental conservation measures as a way to mitigate deforestation, which has been done both through environmental public policies as through environmentally positive initiatives by private companies. This study has the stamp of demonstrating the possibility of allying economic development to environmental preservation and conservation, once new instruments, such as the issuance of CRAs and the development of a market for environmental assets, awakens society to the urgency of taking actions to reverse the environmental deforestation and the real possibility of adopting it without compromising economic development

Para melhor entender o tema objeto deste estudo, fez-se necessária a utilização do método dedutivo de análise, que parte de questões mais genéricas, como os principais destaques da alteração sofrida pelo Código Florestal, em 2012, inclusive o novo conceito de Reserva Legal, por exemplo, para finalmente ater-se a uma questão específica, que no presente caso é a própria CRA e sua inserção no mercado. Este tema tem grande relevância no contexto global atual, devido à necessidade de adoção de medidas de preservação e conservação ambiental, como forma de mitigação do desmatamento e regularização de áreas florestais, o que tem sido feito tanto em âmbito público, por meio de políticas públicas ambientais, como em âmbito privado, por meio de iniciativas ambientalmente positivas de empresas privadas.
