Resumo: This Course Conclusion Work aims to reflect about education process of deaf children. For that were addressed the following objectives: definition and consequences of deafness; historical view of education process of deaf; characterize the Brazilian Sign Language, and describe the process of educating the deaf child today, based on legal texts, especially the PCN. Held in the form of literature and documentary is divided into the following chapters: definition and consequences of deafness; historical overview of education of the deaf, sign language, characterization, description of the deaf education today. Throughout the investigation it was many achievements of deaf community established that there were many achievements of the deaf community, such as the recognition of sign language and the regulation of several laws that guarantee their rights, especially in education. However, still is missing viable alternatives of inclusion, in other words, discuss and create conditions so that the Brazilian educational system can be adapted to new educational paradigms

Para tanto, considera como objetivos específicos: definir surdez e suas consequências; retomar aspectos históricos da educação do surdo; caracterizar a Língua Brasileira de Sinais; e descrever o processo de educação da criança surda nos dias atuais, com base nos textos legais, especialmente o PCN. Realizado na forma de pesquisa bibliográfica e documental divide-se nos seguintes capítulos: definição e conseqüências da surdez; panorama histórico da educação do surdo; caracterização da língua de sinais; descrição do processo de educação dos surdos nos dias atuais. Ao longo da investigação foi possível constatar que foram muitas as conquistas da comunidade surda, como o reconhecimento da língua de sinais e a regulamentação de várias leis que garantem os seus direitos, especialmente na educação.
