Resumo: The aim of this study is to analyze the labor inspection in Brazil, exercised by the Department of Labor and Employment through the Tax Auditors of Labor. We verify the historical evolution, the ILO Convention 81 and the main activities and prerogatives of labor inspection, including notification for submission of documents and issuance of notice of infraction. Also taking care of the administrative police power and major Regulating Safety and Occupational Medicine, applicable to various enterprise segments. We performed the analysis of various legal provisions dealing with labor inspection, with refuge in the Federal Constitution, Consolidation of Labor Laws and segments. At the end, we indicate the importance of inspection activities for the society as a whole and also mention the Government's challenges and Public Civil Action proposed by Federal Prosecutors against the State, stating that the latest one has been too deficient with the Federal Labor System of Inspection

Verificamos a evolução histórica, a Convenção 81 da OIT, bem como as principais atividades e prerrogativas da inspeção do trabalho, inclusive a notificação para apresentação de documentos e a lavratura de auto de infração. Também tratamos do poder de polícia administrativa e das principais Normas Regulamentadoras de Segurança e Medicina do Trabalho, aplicáveis aos mais diversos segmentos empresariais. Realizamos a análise de diversos dispositivos legais que tratam da inspeção do trabalho, com amparo na Constituição Federal, Consolidação das Leis do Trabalho e jurisprudência.
