Resumo: This dissertation proposes to identify how academic productions in the area of education have presented their understanding of punitive and disciplinary practices in studies about school, and also, to reflect on whether school education without discipline is possible. To carry out the research, six dissertations were found in CAPES’s databases; and the selection occurred from the descriptors punitive practices and disciplinary practices. The analysis was carried out based on the Critical Theory of Society point of view. and it was also sought to highlight the concepts that emerged throughout the work process. It presents the comparison of exercise on the role of the school, discipline and indiscipline, authority, control and punishment. These reflections were made specific in this dissertation and are presented in order to aggregate the investigation of pedagogical practices and the school in different perspectives. It is concluded that the researches, although having different goals, contributed to an investigation about punishment and discipline in the school environment. It is inferred that the meaning and conception surrounding the concepts of punishment and discipline are diffuse, sometimes ambiguous. Thus, it is observed practices disciplinary also appear as expressions of punishment to the individual. Finally, a perspective of a school without discipline is not seen in the molds of modern society, as it produces its relationships based on a punitive social structure

Finally, a perspective of a school without discipline is not seen in the molds of modern society, as it produces its relationships based on a punitive social structureA presente dissertação propõe identificar como produções acadêmicas na área da educação têm apresentado seu entendimento sobre as práticas punitivas e disciplinares em estudos sobre a escola, bem como refletir se é possível uma educação escolar sem disciplina. Para a consecução da pesquisa recorreu-se a seis dissertações encontradas no Catálogo de Teses e Dissertações da Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES); e a seleção ocorreu a partir dos descritores “práticas punitivas” e “práticas disciplinares”. A análise foi realizada à luz da Teoria Crítica da Sociedade e a partir dela buscou-se destacar também conceitos que surgiram ao longo do processo do trabalho. Apresenta-se o cotejamento de discussões sobre o papel da escola, disciplina e indisciplina, autoridade, controle e punição. Essas reflexões tornaram-se tópicos específicos nessa dissertação e apresentam-se com intuito de agregar à investigação das práticas pedagógicas e da escola em diferentes perspectivas. Conclui-se que as pesquisas, embora tenham objetivos distintos, contribuíram para a investigação acerca da punição e disciplina no ambiente escolar. Infere-se que o sentido e concepção em torno dos conceitos de punição e disciplina são difusos, por vezes ambíguos. Sendo assim, observa-se que as práticas descritas como disciplinares aparecem também como expressões de punição ao indivíduo.
