Resumo: The current study had as an aim to give children with cancer and their family a space in the waiting room of chemotherapy lounges, allowing them to express themselves in relation to their health and disease through playful material. This study took place in the waiting room of a Children s Chemotherapy Lounge in a hospital in the state of Paraná. Six children, ages 5 to 9, with different types of cancer at different stages, participated in the study. Pairs were formed, mother and child, in which they had to make up a story based on the playful material, dolls and objects which were provided by the researcher. The playful material was composed of representations of 4 daily situations: at home, at the hospital, at school and at the park. The data analysis was divided into two groups: data-collected procedure analysis and content-based, waiting-room observation analysis. A good relationship between mother and child was confirmed. The majority of the stories told by the mothers referred to the tragedy they and their children have gone through since the disease began, while the children made references to other parts of their lives (school, friends and recreation). Most of the mothers were intrusive, and therefore didn t allow the children to play much. Some mothers found the playful material to be of little or no importance. The storytelling varied a lot depending on the pair participating. The scene presented itself as being an adequate and viable resource for reaching the proposed objectives of the study and could be included in the daily routine of the institution. Bearing in mind that this cannot be an unsupervised activity if the aim is to achieve of promotion and favoring of the relationship development. A coordinator is necessary to stimulate the playful process of the mother and child, promoting the mother s listening to the child s playfulness, to aid the mothers in order for them to develop their holding potential and to better elaborate the living conditions of those undergoing treatment

A coordinator is necessary to stimulate the playful process of the mother and child, promoting the mother s listening to the child s playfulness, to aid the mothers in order for them to develop their holding potential and to better elaborate the living conditions of those undergoing treatmentO presente trabalho teve como objetivo possibilitar às crianças que vivem com câncer, juntamente com seu familiar, um espaço na sala de espera do ambulatório de quimioterapia, onde pudessem expressar-se a respeito da dialética saúdedoença, por meio de atividade lúdica.
