The objective of this research is present some important management concepts evidencing the main theories that subsequently correlate with the school administration, so that if can understand the role of the school manager in the performance of their function. Currently the terminology used in this process is management and for it many questions are inserted of social, political and pedagogical order are included, along with others. Following is presents a summary of the history of education in Brazil and its needs for change due to democratization and the search for quality in public education. In this context, there was a concern to promote this transformation through participatory management, linking the relationships between the school and its environment, characterizing the competences of the manager in the educational space, involving the whole group in decision making and in mechanisms used to the educational process. Was used the methodology with qualitative and documentary approach through the authors, Chiavenato with the principles of the classic and scientific theory of the administration and the organizational climate, Motta when presents the connection in the act of administering and managing and Albuquerque and Felix approach the differences within the institutions. Was theoretically based, among others, in Lück, which presents democratic and participatory management, as an adequate possibility for proper functioning of schools and, consequently, ensuring a quality education for students. Among final considerations, was noticed that democratic management, in addition to facilitating entrance of the whole school community, transforms the environment with involvement of whole group in the process of teaching learning
