Resumo: The term ascetism (askesis) comes from old Greece; it was used to define training or exercise, a concept a little different from the modern use of the word which is often related to resignation, austerity. It’s visible that many different religious and philosophic practices into the history have been searching to reduce the suffering thought a life of absent from pleasure. From its analysis this work intends to establish a connection between the Freudian concept of death instinct and the ascetic practice, making it clear, to be able to make a psychoanalytical reading of the subject
