Resumo: The scope of this research is to draw a parallel between ancient Rock Painting and Graffiti, analyzing its similarities and differences. The analysis takes into account the fact that first ancient paintings were carried out in caves (and/or today in archaeological sites) whereas the graphite "takes over" city's landscapes and recharacterizes the urban areas of big centers, generating interventions, dialogues and provocations in the city. Rock art as the oldest type of art in history comes from a tribal and oral culture in which man builds history visually and where art has a magic value and ritual sacredness. In contrast, graffiti appears in an urban culture composed of artists who use public spaces, recording scenes often from everyday life and others from the imaginary, creating an intentional language to intervene in the city. Based on the study and analysis of their historical contexts and the characterization of both cultures (by means of records' gathering from tribal cultures' age to those of the current urban tribes as well as an outline of their differences and meanings) the following are considerations on the default relations of cause and consequence posed by historicism

A arte rupestre como o mais antigo tipo de arte da história surge de uma cultura tribal e oral em que o homem constrói a história visualmente e onde a arte tem um valor de magia e sacralidade ritual. Em contraponto o grafite surge numa cultura urbana composta de artistas que utilizam os espaços públicos, fazendo o registro de cenas muitas vezes do cotidiano e outras do imaginário, criando uma linguagem intencional para interferir na cidade.
