Resumo: The aim of this study was to analyze the elderly's perception towards the meaning, importance of and the cessation of driving vehicles. In the research, participated 22 active drivers and another ones who drove for the last 12 months, from both sexes, with age equal to or superior than 65 years. The instruments used were a social demographic questionnaire and semi structured questions about the perception of driving. We observed that the act of driving to elderly people is related to maintaining their liberty and autonomy, and it also brings them joy and pleasure. Concerning the cessation of it, there is a difficulty in accepting this moment, due to the impact caused in their liberty, autonomy and independence.

Concerning the cessation of it, there is a difficulty in accepting this moment, due to the impact caused in their liberty, autonomy and independence. El objetivo del estudio fue analizar la percepción de los mayores sobre el significado, la importancia de la conducción y el cese de la conducción vehicular. En la encuesta participaron veintidós conductores, activos o conduciendo hasta los últimos 12 meses, de ambos sexos, de 65 años o más. Como instrumentos se utilizó un cuestionario socio-geográfico y un cuestionario con preguntas semiestructuradas sobre la percepción de la conducción de vehículos. Se observó que el acto de conducir de las personas mayores está relacionado con el mantenimiento de su libertad y autonomía; te trae alegría y placer. Sobre dejar de conducir existe una dificultad para aceptar este momento de sus vidas debido al impacto que se producirá en su libertad, autonomía e independencia. O objetivo do estudo foi analisar a percepção do idoso acerca do significado, a importância de dirigir e a cessação da direção veicular. Participaram da pesquisa 22 motoristas ativos ou que dirigiam até os últimos 12 meses, de ambos os sexos, com idade igual ou superior a 65 anos. Como instrumentos, foram utilizados um questionário sociodemográfico e um questionário com perguntas semiestruturadas sobre a percepção da condução veicular. Observou-se que o ato de dirigir para os idosos está relacionado à manutenção de sua liberdade e autonomia, assim como lhes traz alegria e prazer.
