Analysis of anthropometric measures with the quality of life of caregivers of the elderly: Quasi-Experimental Study

Resumo: The objective was to relate anthropometric characteristics with the quality of life of caregivers of elderly people. As a method, a quasi-experimental study, with 31 caregivers of elderly people at the Health Care Center for the Elderly and their Caregivers at Federal Fluminense University, UFF/RJ. The variables collected were: waist circumference, body mass index calculation and the Short Form Health Survey 36 scale. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that, after the intervention, there was a reduction in waist circumference and an improvement in the functional capacity, vitality and mental health domains. In conclusion, the effectiveness of interventions was evidenced.

Como método, estudio cuasi-experimental, con 31 cuidadores de personas mayores en el Centro de Salud del Anciano y sus Cuidadores de la Universidade Federal Fluminense, UFF/ RJ. Las variables recolectadas fueron: circunferencia de cintura, cálculo del índice de masa corporal y la escala Short Form Health Survey 36. Los datos se analizaron mediante la prueba de Wilcoxon. Los resultados mostraron que, después de la intervención, hubo una reducción en la circunferencia de la cintura y una mejora en los dominios de capacidad funcional, vitalidad y salud mental. En conclusión, se evidenció la efectividad de las intervenciones.  O objetivo foi relacionar características antropométricas com a qualidade de vida de cuidadores de pessoas idosas. Como método, estudo quase-experimental, com 31 cuidadoras de idosos no Centro de Atenção à Saúde do Idoso e seus Cuidadores da Universidade Federal Fluminense, UFF/RJ. As variáveis coletadas foram: circunferência abdominal, cálculo do índice de massa corporal e a escala Short Form Health Survey 36. Os dados foram analisados pelo teste de Wilcoxon. Os resultados apontaram que, após a intervenção, observou-se redução na circunferência abdominal e melhora nos domínios capacidade funcional, vitalidade e saúde mental.
