Resumo: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and associated factors in 202 diabetic elderly assisted in primary care in Northeast Brazil. The prevalence corresponded to 73.6% and was associated with gender, alcohol consumption, nutritional status and energy expenditure in domestic activities. Considering the resoluteness of 80% of Primary Care, actions that value active aging are necessary.

La prevalencia correspondió al 73,6% y se asoció con el sexo, el consumo de alcohol, el estado nutricional y el gasto energético en las actividades domésticas. Teniendo en cuenta la resolución del 80% de Atención Primaria, son necesarias acciones que valoren el envejecimiento activo.Estudo seccional que teve por objetivo investigar a prevalência de Síndrome Metabólica e os fatores associados em 202 idosos diabéticos assistidos na atenção primária no Nordeste do Brasil. A prevalência correspondeu a 73,6% e esteve associada ao sexo, consumo de bebida alcoólica, estado nutricional e dispêndio energético nas atividades domésticas.
