Resumo:  Cognitive and functional impairment, among others, are factors that contribute to the institutionalization of the elderly. The objective was to compare samples of elderly aged 60 years and over, resident in long-term care institutions, regarding gender, age, income, physical health conditions, frailty, depressive symptoms, cognition and to identify relationships between these variables. Cross-sectional study with 479 elderly. Most are long-lived women with cognitive decline, dependence on basic activities of daily living, high prevalence of sarcopenia and frailty syndrome.

El objetivo fue comparar muestras de personas mayores de 60 años y más, residentes en establecimientos de cuidados de larga duración, en cuanto a sexo, edad, ingresos, condiciones de salud física, fragilidad, síntomas depresivos, cognición e identificar relaciones entre estas variables. Estudio transversal realizado con 479 personas mayores. La mayoría son mujeres, longevas, con deterioro cognitivo, adicción a las actividades básicas de la vida diaria, alta prevalencia de sarcopenia y síndrome de fragilidad.O comprometimento cognitivo e funcional, dentre outros são fatores que contribuem para a institucionalização da pessoa idosa. Objetivou-se comparar amostras de idosos com 60 e mais anos, residentes em instituições de longa permanência, com relação a sexo, idade, renda, condições de saúde física, fragilidade, sintomas depressivos, cognição, e identificar relações entre essas variáveis. Estudo transversal realizado com 479 idosos.
