This article aims to reflect on the challenges of professional work within the scope of the Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, being the result of a qualitative research that addresses, from the records of workers ( per hour, researchers, the main findings in view of the growing presence of the elderly segment in the service, generating a high demand for requests and monitoring of Social Security benefits and aids. The pandemic moment demanded that CRAS recognize itself as open-door equipment, to guarantee the elderly's access to social rights, and that through listening to strengthen the role of public policies as a field of social protection to produce new practices and innovate in welcoming vulnerable old age in the municipality of Irati, PR.
