Resumo: The objective of this study was to describe the morbidity and costs profile of hospital admissions with elderly in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, from 2008 to 2016. This is a descriptive study, with a cross-sectional and quantitative approach. Through this study it was possible to verify, over the years under analysis, an increasing rate of hospital expenses, highlighting as diseases that most burdened the public system diseases of circulatory, respiratory and neoplasias. These results suggest the need for greater prevention efforts for the main morbidities that affect this population.

Se trata de un estudio descriptivo, con recorte transversal y abordaje cuantitativo, por medio del cual se comprobó, a lo largo de los años en análisis, una tasa creciente de gastos hospitalarios, destacándose como enfermedades que más oneraron el sistema público las enfermedades del aparato circulatorio, respiratorio y neoplasias. Estos resultados sugieren la necesidad de mayores esfuerzos en prevención para las principales morbilidad que afectan a esa población.O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever o perfil de morbidade e custos de internações hospitalares com idosos no estado de Pernambuco, Brasil, no período de 2008 a 2016. Trata-se de estudo descritivo, com recorte transversal e abordagem quantitativa, por meio do qual se pôde verificar, ao longo dos anos em análise, uma taxa crescente de gastos hospitalares, destacando-se como doenças que mais oneraram o sistema público as doenças do aparelho circulatório, respiratório e neoplasias.
