Palliative Care in Portugal: configuration and development of short , graduate, and post-graduate training

This text aims to analyze the development of educational and training provision in palliative care in Portugal. It questions the notion of palliative care and analyzes the legal framework in Portugal and in the European guidelines regarding education / training in this area. To achieve this objective we adopted a qualitative methodology and privileged to bibliographic research, consulting websites and telephone contacts with organizations that offer training in this area, and also interviews with informants. The training gained in other countries, has been integrated in recent years in public and private higher education in Portugal. The public sector, with a very specific offering and the private sector in this area offering a more heterogeneous. Also highlighted the fact that both the public sector and the private sector develop short courses, in the workplace, particularly in palliative care units.
