Resumo: Qualitative study of descriptive character, with the objective of investigating coping strategies used by elderly people affected by a Cerebrovascular Accident. Interviews were conducted with a semi-structured script. A thematic content analysis was used for analysing data. The survey revealed that the way to deal with a Stroke is very unique with each elderly person. The family and health professionals occupy a prominent role in this process.

The family and health professionals occupy a prominent role in this process.  Estudio cualitativo de carácter descriptivo, con el objetivo de investigar las estrategias de enfrentamiento utilizadas por ancianos acometidos por un Accidente Vascular Cerebral. Se realizaron entrevistas a través de un itinerariosemiestructurado. Para el análisis de los datos, se utilizó el análisis de contenido temático. La investigación reveló que la forma de lidiar con un Accidente Vascular Cerebral es muy singular a cada anciano. La familia y losprofesionales de la salud ocupan un papel destacado en este proceso.Estudo qualitativo de caráter descritivo, com o objetivo de investigar as estratégias de enfrentamento utilizadas por idosos acometidos por um Acidente Vascular Cerebral. Foram realizadas entrevistas por meio de um roteiro semi-estruturado. Para análise dos dados, utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo temática. A pesquisa revelou que a forma de lidar com um Acidente Vascular Cerebral é muito singular a cada idoso.
