A review of studies about the elderly mastication

Resumo: Purpose: to carry out an review of mastication of elderly. Methods: search for articles of the chewing in elderly, from the databases Lilacs, SciELO, Web of Science and MEDLINE. Results: Nineteen studies have been selected. Two methodological resources have been the most used ones: objective evaluation and self-perception interviews. The masticatory capacity investigated, most of the times, classified as unsatisfactory. Conclusion: There is a lack of studies and there is not a standardization method to assess mastication in elderly. Keywords: Aged; Aging; Health of the Elderly; Mastication; Review.

Métodos: Busca por artigos sobre mastigação em idosos nas  bases de dados Lilacs, SciELO, Web of Science e MEDLINE. Resultados: Foram selecionados dezenove estudos.
