Resumo: The work analysed has as its background the global democratic scenario which is currently undergoing a technical transformation in popu- lar agenda. This transformation interferes — sometimes imperceptibly — in the outcome of elections. Based on scenarios presented in the European continent (Italy and Hungary) and in the American continent (United States of America and Brazil), Empoli portrays how technological mechanisms are appropriated by what he calls Engineers of Chaos, people capable of using digital media to spread fake news, conspiracy theories by promoting hatred, fear and influencing elections.
