Aunt Marcelina, the black of the coast, and the memories of “Quebra de Xangô” of Alagoas

Resumo: Aunt Marcelina, an African woman who had her terreiro invaded by a militiamen group, was beaten on February 1st, 1912. In addition to the pain, her image resists not being erased and preserving what was known as the “Quebra de Xangô”. This article presents fragments of memories of those who knew her and credited its importance to the history of the xangôs in Alagoas.

Además del dolor, su imagen se resiste para no ser borrada y preservar lo que se conoció como el “Quebra de Xangô”. Este artículo presenta fragmentos de memorias de quien la conoció y acreditó su importancia para la historia de los xangôs en Alagoas.Tia Marcelina, africana que teve seu terreiro invadido por um grupo miliciano, foi espancada em 1º de fevereiro de 1912. Além da dor, sua imagem resiste para não ser apagada e preservar o que ficou conhecido como o Quebra de Xangô. Este artigo apresenta fragmentos de memórias de quem a conheceu e creditou sua importância para a história dos xangôs em Alagoas.
