Resumo: In May 1855, the Meneses family went to the daguerreotypist to make their portraits. This article takes this event to develop biographical sketches of some of the people engaged in it in order to give light to their expectations and aspirations. We see a surgeon of the Brazilian army searching for honor and public recognition, a poetess hoping for education and freedom for women; a photographer desiring fortune and prestige. A partir de ese episodio, ese artículo forma tres breves ensayos biográficos de algunos de los personajes involucrados. Nos quedamos conociendo sus expectativas, y los obstáculos a la realización pública de sus imágenes. Vemos un cirujano mayor del ejército en su búsqueda por honor y reconocimiento, una poetisa que desea más educación y libertad para las mujeres; un fotógrafo que sueña con fortuna y prestigio.
