"The spirit of the people": aesthetics, teachers and folklore in Argentina in the 1920s

Resumo: The 1920 decade was extremely rich in terms of processes and problems of singular relevance and was also a prolific decade in terms of debates and generation of new proposals. The social climate of the post-war period put into crisis the most rationalist precepts installed by nineteenth-century liberalism and favored the inclusion of forms of knowledge linked to the spiritual and sensitivity, beyond the pre-eminence of reason. To explore some of the educational priorities, we will focus on the National Survey of Folklore carried out in 1921 and whose results were gathered in the ‘Colección de Folklore’. It was an initiative in which teachers from schools throughout the country were instructed to collect the folkloric elements they found in their communities: beliefs and customs, narrations and legends, popular art and science to know and prescribe about ‘the spirit of the people’

El clima social del la post-guerra ponía en crisis los preceptos más racionalistas que había instalado el liberalismo decimonónico y propiciaba la inclusión de formas de conocimiento ligadas a la espiritual y sensibilidad, más allá de la preeminencia de la razón. Para explorar algunas de las prioridades educativas nos detendremos en el análisis de la Encuesta Nacional de Folklore o Encuesta del Magisterio que se llevó a cabo en 1921 y cuyos resultados fueron reunidos en la ‘Colección de Folklore’. Se trató de una iniciativa en la que se encargó a los maestros de las escuelas nacionales de todo el país la recolección de los elementos folklóricos que encontraran en su jurisdicción: creencias y costumbres, narraciones y refranes, arte y ciencia popular para conocer y prescribir sobre ‘el espíritu del pueblo’A década de 1920 foi extremamente rica em termos de processos e problemas de relevância singular e também foi uma década prolífica em termos de debates e geração de novas propostas. O clima social do pós-guerra colocou em crise os preceitos mais racionalistas que o liberalismo do século XIX havia instalado e levou à inclusão de formas de conhecimento ligadas ao espiritual e à sensibilidade, além da preeminência da razão. Para explorar algumas das prioridades educacionais, nos deteremos na análise da Pesquisa Nacional de Folclore ou Pesquisa de Ensino, realizada em 1921 e cujos resultados foram reunidos na ‘Colección de Folklore’.
