INTERCULTURALITY AND POPULAR CULTURE : OVERCOMING FOLKLORIZATION IN SCHOOL EDUCATION

Resumo: In this text, resulting from an extensive literature survey and bibliographic research, we first analyze the historically established relationships between popular culture and the school environment. For this purpose, we carried out a reflection on the historical processes and academic production that helped to support the imaginary that sees popular culture as primitive, archaic and even barbaric, conceptions that reach the school space and make certain cultural practices to be approached in a picturesque and stereotyped way in the school “folkloric” calendar. Subsequently, we advocate the need to re-signify this mentality and present how intercultural perspectives of education help in the construction of pedagogical practices that value cultural diversity, opening space for knowledge, ways of sociability, ways of relating to biodiversity present in popular cultures.

Para ello, realizamos una reflexión sobre los procesos históricos y la producción académica que ayudaron a sustentar el imaginario que ve a la cultura popular como primitiva, arcaica y hasta bárbara, concepciones que alcanzan el espacio escolar y hacen que ciertas prácticas culturales sean abordadas de una manera pintoresca y estereotipada dentro del calendario “folklórico” de las escuelas. Posteriormente, abogamos por la necesidad de resignificar esta mentalidad y exponemos cómo las perspectivas interculturales de la educación ayudan en la construcción de prácticas pedagógicas que valoren la diversidad cultural, abriendo espacio para los conocimientos, formas de sociabilidad, modos de relacionarse con la biodiversidad presentes en las culturas populares.Neste texto, resultante de um extenso levantamento de literatura e pesquisa bibliográfica, primeiramente, analisamos as relações estabelecidas historicamente entre a cultura popular e o espaço escolar. Para isso, realizamos uma reflexão a respeito dos processos históricos e produção acadêmica que ajudaram a alicerçar o imaginário que enxerga a cultura popular como primitiva, arcaica e até bárbara, concepções que alcançam o espaço escolar e fazem com que determinadas práticas culturais sejam abordadas de forma pitoresca e estereotipada dentro do calendário “folclórico” das escolas.
