The National Campaign for the Education of the Blind: a reading from the journalistic press of the 1960s and 1970s

Resumo: It is sought in this article to understand the lines of action and function of the National Campaign for the Education of the Blind in the period of the years 1960 and 1970. The Campaign used to integrate a ‘campaign model of social politics’, under the Ministry of Education and Culture. The Campaign for the Education of the Blind operated in lines of action that involved the diffusion of textbooks.; the education of braille in Teacher Training Courses; the qualification of the blind for industrial activities; financial assistance and agreement with the National Campaign of Rural Education. The press is prioritized as source given the peculiarities not provided by other sources, ‘such as wealth of debates, the yearning and utopias of the educational projects’.

La Campaña integraba un ‘modelo campañista de política social’, subordinada al Ministerio de Educación y Cultura; y actuaba en lineas de acción que envolvían: difusión del libro didáctico; enseñanza de braile para los estudiantes de magisterio; calificación de ciegos para actividades industriales; asistencia financiera; y convenio con la Campaña Nacional de Educación Rural. La prensa de grande circulación es privilegiada como fuente por sus peculiaridades no proporcionadas por otras fuentes, ‘como riqueza de debates, deseos y utopias de los projectos educativos’. Busca-se, neste artigo, compreender as linhas de ação e o funcionamento da Campanha Nacional para Educação dos Cegos, durante as décadas de 1960 e 1970. Essa campanha integrava um ‘modelo campanhista de política social’, subordinada ao Ministério da Educação e Cultura, e atuava em linhas de ação que envolviam a difusão do livro didático; o ensino de braile no Curso Normal; a qualificação de cegos para atividades industriais; a assistência financeira; e o convênio com a Campanha Nacional de Educação Rural.
