Curriculum changes at vocational high schools in São Paulo state: from ‘social integration’ to ‘engagement for transformation’

Resumo: This article reviews the curriculum of Vocational HighSchools (known then as ‘Ginásios Vocacionais’) in São PauloState, an experimental educational project developed between1961 and 1970. We consider the proposition that the legal andtheoretical frameworks that guided the curriculum of theseschools underwent major changes during their nine years ofexistence, due to the construction and expansion of theexperience, as well as the internal differences that existedwithin the staff of the Vocational Education Service (SEV),the office that administered the schools. These differences arealso associated with the historical context of the 1960s andreveal the singularity of the educational proposal ofVocational High Schools in relation to other curriculumchanges that occurred during that period.

Consideramos a proposição deque os parâmetros legais e teóricos que orientaram o currículodessas escolas passaram por mudanças significativas ao longode seus nove anos de existência, tanto devido à construção e àampliação da experiência quanto às diferenças internasexistentes na equipe do Serviço do Ensino Vocacional (SEV),órgão que administrava as escolas.
