Resumo: This article aimed to discuss the experience of Tivoli - the actions of the owners and the repercussions of their initiatives, with emphasis on the positions regarding public behaviour, interpreted from a double dimension: education for and through entertainment. It was one of the pioneers of amusement parks in Rio de Janeiro. Inaugurated in 1846, it occupied a remarkable space in the city, an expression of the set of changes that marked the society of the State of Rio de Janeiro in the 19th century. As sources, we opted for the use of newspapers. The purpose of the investigation is to take a different look at the daily life of the city, recognizing the relevance of the experiences of fun. It is suggested that there are significant instances of education; interesting historical research topics.

Se trata de uno de los pioneros parques de diversiones de Rio de Janeiro-Brasil. Inaugurado en 1846, ocupó un espacio notable en la ciudad, una expresión del conjunto de cambios que marcaron la sociedad fluminense a mediados del siglo XIX. Como fuentes, optamos por el uso de periódicos. El propósito de la investigación es tener una mirada diferente al cotidiano de la ciudad, reconociendo la relevancia de las experiencias de diversión. Se sugiere que son significativas las instancias de educación, interesantes temas de investigación histórica.Este artigo tem por objetivo discutir a experiência do Tivoli – as ações dos proprietários e a repercussão de suas iniciativas, com ênfase no que tange aos posicionamentos relativos aos comportamentos públicos, interpretados a partir de uma dupla dimensão: educação para e pelo entretenimento. Trata-se de um dos pioneiros parques de diversão do Rio de Janeiro. Inaugurado em 1846, ocupou um espaço notável na cidade, uma expressão do conjunto de mudanças que marcou a sociedade fluminense em meados do século XIX. Como fontes, optou-se pelo uso de jornais. O intuito da investigação é lançar um olhar distinto para o cotidiano citadino, reconhecendo a relevância das vivências de diversão.
