The school material culture: notes from the history of education

Resumo: This paper focuses on the special role of school material culture in the analyses of Brazilian education historiography since the 1990´s. Researches on history of school material culture are analyzed and four aspects were examined: Firstly, school architecture, secondly, school archives and library, then audiovisual material and finally the main changes in historiographical sensibility of studies about the history of Brazilian education. It highlights the relevance this theme to studies about school practices and to historiography of education. In this paper, we sought to reflect on some challenges in educational memory and in research in history of education.

Las investigaciones sobre la historia de la cultura material escolar se analizan y cuatro aspectos se examinan: primero la arquitectura escolar, enseguida los archivos y bibliotecas escolares, después, los materiales audiovisuales y, finalmente, el cambio de la sensibilidad historiográfica de los estudios sobre la historia de la educación brasileña. Destaca la relevancia de este tema para el estudio de las prácticas escolares y para la historiografía de la educación. En este texto se pretende reflexionar acerca de algunos cambios en la memoria educativa y en la investigación en historia de la educación.Este artigo focaliza o lugar especial da cultura material da escola nas análises da historiografia da educação a partir da década de 1990. Pesquisas sobre a história da cultura material escolar são analisadas e quatro aspectos são examinados: primeiramente, a arquitetura escolar, em seguida, os arquivos e bibliotecas escolares, depois, os materiais audiovisuais e, finalmente, a mudança da sensibilidade historiográfica dos estudos sobre a história da educação brasileira. Destaca a relevância deste tema para o estudo das práticas escolares e para a historiografia da educação.
