Resumo: The article aims to investigate the process of instruction to teachers of ethnic ‘German’ community schools in the Itajaí Valley from 1906 to 1917, in which the Journal of the Association of Teachers and School Societies of Santa Catarina (Southern Brazil), Mitteilungen des Deutschen Schulvereins für Santa Catharina (Südbrasilien) exposed the norms about the curriculum and pedagogical guidelines. This newspaper guided the teacher in the didactic, cultural, critical, moralistic spheres and mirrored the organization of the community in relation to formal education, the German language and the Portuguese language. Thus, this study seeks to investigate the relationship between education and ethnicity through the inclusion of the Portuguese language in the guidelines for teachers in the aforementioned newspaper. The discussions are anchored in F. Barth, analyzing the strategies for local and regional education aiming to maintain ethnic specificities and, at the same time, negotiating with elements from other ethnic groups. As a result, the relevance of the newspaper as a research source for understanding the development of formal education in the Itajaí Valley and the process of re-signifying ethnic identity through the insertion of Portuguese into the school curriculum of ethnic schools is evident.

Este periódico orientó al docente en los ámbitos didáctico, cultural, crítico, moralista y reflejó la organización de la comunidad en relación con la educación formal, el idioma alemán y el idioma portugués. Así, este estudio busca investigar la relación entre educación y etnia a través de la inclusión de la lengua portuguesa en las directrices para docentes del citado diario. Las discusiones están ancladas en F. Barth, analizando las estrategias de educación local y regional con el objetivo de mantener las especificidades étnicas y, al mismo tiempo, negociar con elementos de otros grupos étnicos. Como resultado, se evidencia la relevancia del periódico como fuente de investigación para comprender el desarrollo de la educación formal en el Valle de Itajaí y el proceso de resignificación de la identidad étnica a través de la inserción del portugués en el currículo escolar de las escuelas étnicas.O artigo objetiva averiguar o processo de instrução aos professores das escolas comunitárias étnicas ‘alemãs’ no Vale do Itajaí de 1906 a 1917, no qual o jornal da Associação de Professores e Sociedades Escolares de Santa Catarina (Sul do Brasil), Mitteilungen des Deutschen Schulvereins für Santa Catharina (Südbrasilien) expunha as normativas acerca do currículo e orientações pedagógicas. Esse jornal orientou o professor nas esferas didática, cultural, crítica, de formação moralista e espelhou a organização da comunidade em relação à educação formal, à língua alemã e à língua portuguesa. Dessa forma, este estudo investiga a relação entre educação e etnicidade por meio da inclusão da língua portuguesa nas orientações aos professores no jornal acima mencionado. As discussões se ancoram em F. Barth, analisando as estratégias para o ensino local e regional, pretendendo manter especificidades étnicas e, ao mesmo tempo, negociando com elementos de outros grupos étnicos.
