Resumo: In the transition from the 19th to the 20th century, few women had access to higher education. In this article, we investigate the intellectual trajectory of Eudésia Vieira: the first female doctor from Paraíba formed in 1934. The study used biographical sources and newspaper articles. Therefore, it is possible to indicate three common elements in the trajectories of the first brazilian doctors: 1) the difficulties faced by them in the political and cultural context of the period, 2) the teaching profession as the first activity carried out in the public space and 3) medicine as profession to care for other women and children. In addition, Eudésia Vieira was part of the group of Catholic intellectuals who rose in the press to propagate Christian reformist ideals

Ante esto, es posible indicar tres elementos comunes en las trayectorias de los primeros médicos brasileños: 1) las dificultades que enfrentan en el contexto político y cultural de la época, 2) la profesión docente como la primera actividad realizada en el espacio público y 3) la medicina como profesión para cuidar a otras mujeres y niños. Además, Eudésia Vieira era parte del grupo de intelectuales católicos que se alzaron en la prensa para propagar los ideales reformistas cristianos.Na transição do século XIX para o século XX poucas foram as mulheres que tiveram acesso ao ensino superior. Neste artigo, investigamos a trajetória intelectual de Eudésia Vieira: a primeira médica paraibana, formada em 1934. O estudo utilizou fontes (auto)biográficas e artigos de jornais. Diante disso, é possível indicar três elementos comuns nas trajetórias das primeiras médicas brasileiras: 1) as dificuldades enfrentadas por elas no contexto político e cultural do período, 2) a profissão docente como a primeira atividade realizada no espaço público e 3) a medicina como profissão para cuidar de outras mulheres e das crianças.
