Resumo: From 7 April 1994 to 4 July of the same year, about 800,000 Tutsis were killed by the Hutu militia in Rwanda. Under the silence of the International Community, the ethnic minority was exterminated in a period of three months. UN peacekeepers and Belgian troops were in the country during the genocide, however, they did not have a mandate to act against the armed group. Also, there was no interest of the great powers to carry out a military intervention in the heart of the African continent, and the violent and cruel murders of the Tutsis was seen as a tribal conflict that took place in an undeveloped country.
