Este conceito claramente coloca o bem-estar como condição essencial à saúde dos seres humanos. É precisamente na esfera do bem-estar que encontramos o termalismo como atividade, não apenas de tratamento de saúde, mas também como componente da prossecução desse mesmo estado de bem-estar que se pretende conquistar. O quotidiano atual frequentemente dificulta a generalidade das pessoas de atingir esse estado em pleno, dando assim abertura a um vasto leque de terapias e opções de tratamento que se encontram à disposição de todos, mediante o tipo de atividades que cada um pretende realizar. As estâncias termais possuem uma já longa história inserida na nossa cultura de saúde e bem-estar, tendo acompanhado desde sempre a evolução dos tratamentos baseados em recursos naturais. Considerando que as estâncias termais existentes em Portugal contam já com bastantes anos de atividade e que de acordo com o Plano Estratégico Nacional de Turismo – Revisão do plano de desenvolvimento do turismo no horizonte de 2015, que identifica a necessidade de se reposicionar o produto termal no mercado, a realização deste trabalho tem como alguns dos seus objetivos identificar os atuais serviços termais existentes no Norte de Portugal, compreender o atual panorama das termas do Norte, quais os seus desafios e que possíveis soluções os stakeholders das regiões termais identificam como suscetíveis de redefinir a oferta termal e turística. Para a recolha de dados será utilizada uma metodologia qualitativa, a qual permitirá reunir informação essencial para dar resposta aos objetivos deste trabalho. Pretende-se assim que com este trabalho o Norte de Portugal, os stakeholders das regiões termais do Norte, as DMOs e em particular a entidade Turismo do Porto e Norte de Portugal passem a usufruir de um plano estratégico que englobe a criação de uma estratégia termal na região, captação de novos mercados nacionais e internacionais, criação de novos produtos e serviços turísticos nas regiões termais e promoção desta nova realidade a nível global.The World Health Organization (WHO) considers that the concept of health is a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being and not only absence of disease or infirmity. This concept clearly places well-being as an essential condition to the health of human beings. It is precisely within the scope of well-being that we find the hot springs as an activity, not only for health treatment, but also as a component of the search for that same state of well-being that one intends to conquer. The current daily routine frequently hinders most people to achieve that state fully, opening a wide choice of therapies and treatment options that are available to everyone, according to the type of activity each person intends to perform. Thermal SPAs have a long history among our culture of health and well-being, followed the evolution of the treatments based on natural resources. Considering that the thermal SPAs that exist in Portugal already count several years of activity and that according to the National Tourism Strategic Plan (Plano Estratégico Nacional de Turismo) – revision of the plan for the tourism development in the horizon 2015, which identifies the need to replace the thermal product in the market, this project work has as some of its goals to identify the existing hot springs services in the north of Portugal, understand the current setting of the SPAs in the north, which challenges they face and what possible solutions the thermal regions stakeholders identify as susceptible to redefine the thermal and touristic offer. For the data collection it will be used a qualitative methodology to allow the collection of essential information to achieve the goals of this project.
