This dissertation focuses on the study of the vertical collective housing in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The research takes into account two temporal and spatial frames: the first one, from 1940s to 1950s, in the Higienópolis neighborhood, analyzing the modern production; and the second one, from the 2000s, in Vila Madalena and surroundings, focusing on the contemporary production. The work seeks to understand the factors that lead certain buildings to stand out in other solutions through the identification of design options and the relevant compositional themes of each case, in order to draw parallel guidelines that indicate approximations and transformations. Thus, the research intends to contribute to the discussions about São Paulo's architecture and its ways of living, changes and future projections.
