Residents, attitude and perceptions of the future in the Boa Vista island

As well as the close relationship between residents’ attitude of a tourist destination and its success, their involvement in planning and managing is key for its sustainability. It is therefore important to identify the indicators and theories that can better contribute to a clear definition of attitude, involvement, and residents perception of the future. This work shares some clues that contribute to an understanding of the attitude of Boa Vista’s island residents towards its future. As an international tourist destination with increasing emphasis, this Cape Verdean island reveals results that corroborate and that counter some positions and common assumptions. Our contribution is a result of the application of semi-structured interviews to residents of this tourist destination in order to determine their perception towards the future and subsequent comparative analysis with their socio-demographic characteristics.
