The historical-cultural and affective relations between Brazil and Portugal are muchmore complex than they seem. They are two peoples united not only by LusoBrazilian ancestry, but by a common history, by the culture and the Portugueselanguage, a link that will never be lost. This document presents the outline of aninvestigation that focuses on the comparative analysis of the symbolicrepresentations about Brazil used in four Portuguese online newspapers: Diário deNotícias, Público, Correio da Manhã and Jornal de Notícias. The analysis will focuson the news produced throughout the year 2016, the period of the Olympics, theimpeachment of the former President of the Republic, as well the political andeconomic crises. The study intends to investigate which representations / imageson Brazil were propagated by the four newspapers, through their news productionspublished in their online versions; focusing on the discursive practices andjournalistic routines used by the newspapers in the construction of news aboutBrazil.
