Resumo: The current need for a sustainable development of architecture, due to an increasingly complex climatic context, has resulted in an increment of the construction regulations, mainly in terms of environmental performance of buildings. However, these regulations are very restrictive, and don't make distinctions between the new construction and the interventions in the built environment, which can result in projects that are unadjusted to the pre-existing logics and the conservation of heritage values. The present dissertation approaches this problem, positioning itself in the relation between the contemporary construction demands and the intervention in heritage buildings and analyses problematics related to the association of the old and the new, and the notion of comfort. The Bioclimatic Rehabilitation thus emerges as a way of exploring a more sustainable design practice that seeks to guaranty the minimum comfort conditions and the energy efficiency for the rehabilitation project through the relation between architecture and climate. But it does not forget the analysis of the heritage values, resorting to the concepts of authenticity and integrity, which imply care in the maintenance of the existing elements that are important to identify the singularity of the building and its ambience. The investigation of the intervention constraints, carried out with the analysis of case studies, allowed to outline strategies for the rehabilitation project of a factory of the beginning of the 20th century, in Warsaw, as a method to understand the basis for a conscious bioclimatic intervention. The project developed, which results from the participation on the international architecture contest organised by Saint-Gobain in 2022, thus grant the opportunity to intervene in a context much different from the Portuguese, pushing the climate adaptation to the limit to test the analysed concepts and constraints.
