Resumo: This Master dissertation is a proposal for analyzing and determining the types of sculptures containing motion, as well as the processes used by artists to deal with the technical and aesthetic aspects, of movement behind the representation. This work is divided into four chapters: 1st - General aspects of movement related to the study of physics; 2nd - Kinetic art movement chronology; 3rd - Works by contemporary artists, who used movement; 4th - Kinetic Art in Portugal. A dimension of the most powerful visual stimulus may be movement, whether it is real or apparent. What is movement? When we talk about movement we have to consider works of art that represent movement and works in which there are mechanisms that produce movement. Speed, space and time are all components of movement
