Determination of the excitation function for nuclear reactions in beryllium induced by helium-3

Resumo: | In 2020 the Internationa lAtomic Energy Agency (IAEA)created a Coordinated Research Project (CRP) devoted to the" Development and Application of Ion BeamTechniques for Materials Irradiation and Characterization relevant to Fusion Technology" (CRP Code F11023). The discrepancies and lack of data on fundamental parameters required for ion beam analysis techniques, lead it to be set as project priority the experimental data collection for the differential cross section calculation of nuclear reactions induced by 3He in 6Li,7Li,9Be,10B,11B, 12C and 13C. The main contribution made by this work to the goals of the project was the experimental determination of the excitation function for the proton groups 9Be 3He, pi 11B (i = 0 9). The differential cross sections were obtained using a thin beryllium film target for angles between 110 and 165 with a5 step and int he energy range between 1.0MeV and 2.5 MeV, which is the typical energy range for the ion beam analysis techniques. The results were compared with the two previous studies in the same energy range and differing bya factor of 1.4 between them.The results are in very good agreement with one of these studies and were benchmarked with the measurement of a pure beryllium thick target reaction yields at 2.5 MeV for 135 . The calculated cross sections are presented in graphical form for135 and are also given as tables in the Appendix for all the measured angles. |

As discrepâncias e a falta de dados ao nível de parâmetros fundamentais,necessários a essa caracterização,j ustificam que tenha sido definida como uma das prioridades do projeto, a obtenção experimental de secções eficazes de reações nucleares induzidas por 3He em 6Li,7Li, 9Be,10B,11B, 12C e 13C. A contribuição principal do presente trabalho para os objetivos desse programa consistiu na obtenção das funções de excitação para os grupos de protões 9Be 3He, pi 11B (i = 09). Utilizando um alvo fino de berílio,estas foram obtidas para os ângulos entre 110 e 165 em incrementosde5 e para o intervalo de energia entre1.0MeVe2.5MeV,sendo este,o intervalo de energia tipicamente utilizado em técnicas de caracterização de feixes de iões. Os resultados foram comparados com os dois estudos anteriormente realizados neste intervalo de energia e que diverge entre si por um fator de1.4.Os resultados estão em excelente acordo com um destes estudos. Os resultados foram ainda verificados recorrendo à medição do rendimento de um alvo espesso de berilio para a energia do feixe igual a 2.5 MeV e para o ângulo de 135 .
