Resumo: | One of the arenas of conflict and negotiation during the revolutionary period of the post-April 25th in Portugal was the access to higher education, in part due to the mirage of social democratization that this access awakens. One of the ways by which states transform ideology into concrete policies is through regulation. In Portugal, the regulation of the access to higher education institutions has been the primary way of implementing government policies and has reflected the ideological and political direction changes that have occurred throughout the years. If access to higher education was initially primarily concerned with extending access to more comprehensive ranges of the population, it is now nowadays concerned with the diversification of this access and higher education itself to fulfil its mandate of social democratization. Thus there have been created new training offers, including the Cursos Técnicos Superiores Profissionais (CTeSP), which are a modality of short cycle training available in polytechnics. The development of these courses has been mainly defended in terms of the diversification of higher education to new audiences, and with the updating of the qualification of the Portuguese workforce to deal with employability requirements in a more technological and greener economy (cedefop, 2021). Previous work has identified that the perception of the benefit of TeSP courses in institutional actors is more in the economic dimension than in the social dimension (Sotomayor Jaramillo, 2019), as usually argued by the institutional that promote the existence of these courses. To what extent these courses fall within the scope of the personal aspirations of their students is less studied. This thesis explores the Cursos Técnicos Superiores Profissionais (CTeSP) and how they are perceived by the students who attend them in the context of the democratization and massification of higher education in Portugal. Through a case study we try to determine to what extent can this teaching experience be comprehended as democratizing? |
