The Social Responsibilities of School and of the Educational Professionals Involved in It: Contribution Towards a Debate

Resumo: One of the greatest problems in the modern debate on the School, especially State Schools, relates to the perspective, not always explicit, by which the educational aims of the school tend to be devalued in relation to its social aims. While being a generous response that falls under the umbrella of the school’s stated aims of being an inclusive space, this attitude contributes to feeding the illusion of the possibility that that same School can declare itself, specifically in relation to those students that come from unfavourable social backgrounds, to be not just a centre for cultural development, but, especially, as a space for social rehabilitation. With these points in mind, this text aims to contribute to the debate relating to the social responsibility of the School and of the educational professionals involved in it.

With these points in mind, this text aims to contribute to the debate relating to the social responsibility of the School and of the educational professionals involved in it.Um dos maiores problemas com que, hoje, se debate a Escola, e em particular a Escola Pública, tem a ver com a perspectiva, nem sempre explícita, através da qual se tendem a desvalorizar as suas finalidades educativas face às suas finalidades sociais, enquanto resposta generosa que, sob a capa da sua afirmação como um espaço inclusivo, contribui para alimentar a ilusão da possibilidade dessa mesma Escola se afirmar, nomeadamente face àqueles alunos que são provenientes dos meios sociais mais desfavorecidos, não tanto como um pólo de desenvolvimento cultural, mas, sobretudo, como um espaço de reabilitação social.
