Travelling with technology. When technology fails

Nowadays, technology has become imperative and it means much more that we could ever imagined. For tourism, it is no exception. The focus point of this work relies on understanding the use of technology in a tourism context and it questions, somehow, its real use in the actual tourism context, at the same time as it intends to understand what fails in the use of technology and the possible consequences of these constraints. The knowledge acquired and developed by Dr Barbara Nuhofer (2014) and Dr Niklas Eriksson (2013) in their studies was an asset to this study, since this area of research is still little explored. It was conducted a survey, through which it was found that although the technology has a lot of potential, during the trip the technology is mostly used to share content and communicate. It was also found that several failures related to the technology occur, and have consequences such as: stress, loss of time, not reached expectations, among others. This study made it possible to understand that there is a need to study the state of technology in tourism and intends to alert the industry in order to create the conditions to make the most of technology in this context.
