Resumo: Emotion regulation is related to how human beings influence, express and experience their emotions. According to Gratz and Roemer (2004), the regulation of emotions must meet four criteria: awareness and emotional understanding; acceptance of emotions; controlling impulsive behavior and achieving goals; effective use of emotion regulation in response to the demands of the situation. The absence of these dimensions causes difficulties in emotional regulation in the individual. This lack of emotional regulation may be related to the existence of negative feelings about the body, which affect the development of a positive body image, and also with symptoms related to other psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression and stress. In this sense, the present study aims to analyze the relationship of emotional regulation difficulties (DERS) with positive body image, namely with the dimensions of Body Appreciation (BAS) and Acceptance of the body by others (BAOS) and also with the psychological variables Anxiety, Depression and Stress (EADS). The sample consists of 359 individuals, aged between 18 and 75 years (M= 30.43; SD= 13.22). Participants didn´t present Difficulties in Emotional Regulation or anxious or depressive symptoms. There is also a good body appreciation and acceptance of the body by others. The results show statistically significant differences between gender in Body Appreciation and in the Non-acceptance dimension of the DERS scale, with men showing higher mean values in Body Appreciation and more difficulties in accepting emotional responses. Regarding education, there are statistically significant negative associations with the DERS_conscience and DERS_clarity subscales. Inverse and statistically significant correlations are found between all DERS and Body Appreciation and Acceptance of the Body by others. Furthermore, positive and statistically significant correlation values between all Difficulties of Emotional Regulation and the three EADS subscales. In terms of prediction, Body appreciation, Depression and Anxiety are significant predictors of Difficulties in Emotional Regulation, with 54% of the variance in Difficulties in Emotional Regulation explained by the regression model. The results found give special importance to Body Appreciation, Anxiety and Depression in the subject's emotional regulation and, as such, in their psychological health, contributing to a greater understanding of the relationship between DERS and Positive Body Image.
