(Re) pensar o ofício do investigador qualitativo, hoje: metáforas, ferramentas e competências em CAQDAS

Resumo: Traditionally associated with quantitative research, the use and mastery of diverse software is nowadays an indelible characteristic of the qualitative researcher. Anchored on the author’s experience within the context of the qualitative research developed during the preparation of her doctoral thesis, this paper addresses the set of metaphors, tools and skills forcing to (re)think the craft of the qualitative research at present times. By the end, we argue that the acronym CAQDAS must extend beyond a restricted meaning that associates it with specific software of processing and data analysis (such as Atlas.ti, MaxQda, NVivo or WebQda), to encompass a diverse set of tools aimed to help the qualitative researcher at different times and stages of research. Such evidence is developed here using the metaphor of a researcher that, besides being a “choreographer,” “maestro” and “bricoleur” is (should be) also a “geek” researcher.

Anclado en la experiencia del autor en el contexto de la investigación cualitativa desarrollada durante la preparación de su tesis doctoral, este trabajo aborda el conjunto de metáforas, herramientas y habilidades obligando a (re) pensar el arte de la investigación cualitativa en los tiempos actuales. Al final, se argumenta que las siglas CAQDAS deben extenderse más allá de un significado que lo asocia con un software específico de análisis y procesamiento de datos (como Atlas.ti, MAXQDA, NVivo o WebQda), sino que abarca una amplia selección de herramientas destinadas a ayudar al investigador cualitativo en diferentes momentos y etapas de la investigación. Tal evidencia se desarrolla aquí desde la metáfora de un investigador que, además de ser un “coreógrafo”, “maestro” y “bricoleur” es (debe ser) también un investigador “geek”.Tradicionalmente associada à investigação quantitativa, a proficiência em software diversificado constitui na atualidade uma característica indelével do investigador qualitativo. A partir da experiência da autora no quadro da investigação qualitativa que desenvolveu com vista à elaboração da sua tese de doutoramento, este texto aborda o conjunto de metáforas, ferramentas e competências que obrigam a (re)pensar o ofício do investigador qualitativo, hoje. No final, argumentamos que o acrónimo CAQDAS deve entender-se numa aceção plural que não apenas associado a software específico de tratamento e análise de dados (como o Atlas.ti, MaxQda, NVivo ou WebQda), mas que abarque um conjunto diverso de ferramentas destinadas a auxiliar o investigador qualitativo em diversos momentos e fases da investigação.
