Todas as crianças merecem pertencer a uma família que lhes dê carinho, proteção e que as eduque para se tornarem cidadãos responsáveis e sensatos no futuro. Para além da família, também a sociedade deverá acautelar e zelar por cada criança, até porque «não existe revelação mais nítida da alma de uma sociedade do que a forma como esta trata as suas crianças» (Nelson Mandela). Quando a família, por diversos motivos, não consegue assegurar tais cuidados, o Estado encarrega-se de dar uma resposta adequada, tendo em conta os seus recursos. O Acolhimento Residencial constitui uma das soluções existentes. Desde a entrada da criança numa Casa de Acolhimento, a Equipa deverá começar a preparar a sua saída. Todo esse processo está descrito na presente dissertação, estando o mesmo organizado em três Capítulos, iniciando-se no Enquadramento Legal da Proteção das Crianças e Jovens em Portugal, passando pelas Teorias e Práticas associadas ao Acolhimento Residencial, culminando com o Projeto de Investigação, onde se procura espelhar a realidade das Casas de Acolhimento do Distrito de Santarém. Os tempos de acolhimento, a definição de projetos de vida e o acompanhamento de cada criança, de cada família e aplicabilidade da Lei vigente, carecem de um maior investimento e de uma reflexão crítica de todo o processo de acolhimento. Aqui, a autora procura partilhar a sua prática, dando a conhecer as fragilidades e potencialidades no mundo do acolhimento. / All children deserve to belong to a family that gives them affection and protection, and that raises them in order for them become responsible and sensible citizens in the future. In addition to the family, the society should also safeguard and watch for each child, even because «there is no clearer revelation of the soul of a society than the way how it treats its children» (Nelson Mandela). In the event that the family, due to several reasons is not able to ensure such care, the State takes on the task of providing an adequate answer, considering its own resources. The placement in Foster Homes is one of the existing options. As from the moment when a child enters a Foster Home, the Team should start preparing her leave. All this process is described in this dissertation, which is organized in three chapters, beginning with the Legal Framework of the Child and Youngsters' Protection in Portugal, following to the Theories and Practices associated with Foster Homes, and ending with the investigating project, aimed at reflecting on the reality of Foster Homes in the Santarém District. The foster timings, the definition of projects of life and the monitoring of each child, of each family and of the applicability of the law in force require a bigger investment and a critical reflection of the whole foster process. In this document, the author seeks to share her experience, thereby raising awareness of the frailties and potentialities of the foster world.
